So… we just finished an incredible Maymester ceramics class in McMaster.
Our instructor, Bri, was one of the most knowledgeable, helpful, and aware professors that I’ve known in the art department. Bri handled our class with the utmost of care, guided us through tons of material in a very short period of time (a four hour credit class in less than one month) and brought us to the point of portfolio-worthy display pieces easily, and with a lighthearted professionalism.
The amount of material that we learned, the amount of items we collectively and individually produced and the variation of the items we produced all were amazing. Our class consisted of about a dozen students and we all dug in and got a lot done. The atmosphere in the class was relaxed but schedule-centric which was required to get through the material in a short period of time in our Maymester.
The pictures that you see on this blog are a result of a focused group of students , following professional instruction at an introductory level.
Being in the class, I feel that the work produced by myself and others was amazing! I hope you enjoy viewing these as much as we enjoyed working on them and learning from others. The camaraderie and brotherhood gained by intense training over a short period of time will be irreplaceable in my journey towards creating better art.
If you take a tour of McMaster, or are lucky enough to be enrolled in the classes offered there, take time to visit the galleries and the exhibits that are regularly shown in the building – paintings, 3-D sculpture, jewelry, drawings, ceramics, printing, and many other facets of art are rotating regularly on display. Enjoy!
